DEADLINE: 8th June 2012 - New business ideas, community schemes and environmental projects in the Yorkshire Dales National Park are being given the chance to bid for a pot of cash. The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority's Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) - now in its eleventh year of operation - aims to achieve a more sustainable way of living and working in the Dales. The fund, which is managed by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) on behalf of the Authority, is open to everyone - community groups, businesses, and individuals. It can support projects that create local jobs or training opportunities, or that improve the range of facilities and services available to local communities provided that the projects also bring environmental benefits.
So far, it has given out more than £1.75 million to 175 projects and it is now looking for bids for the next round of grants before the application window closes on June 8.

As a result of the success of the LEADER Programme over the last 3 years North York Moors, Coast and Hills LEADER Programme has secured an additional £280,000 from Defra.
Following the approval of the Executive Group, they have decided to allocate some of this money to the Small Scale Enhancement Schemes to allow them to support even more small projects with up to £5,000, and to re-open the main programme for new applications.

Please note they have been given a short timeframe in which to allocate and spend the additional money. The deadline dates for applications are 27th June and 26th September 2012 and projects must be completed by September 2013.

Overall the Programme has been awarded £3.1 million between 2009 and 2014 as part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) to support rural community based projects and initiatives. To date the programme's resources have been allocated to more than 180 projects across the area through both the main programme and the Small Scale Enhancement Scheme for projects looking for less than £5,000. Funding for the North York Moors, Coast & Hills LEADER Programme has been made available through the Rural Development Programme for England, which is jointly funded by Defra and the European Union.

The Lloyds Banking Groups Social Entrepreneurs programme will support 150 social entrepreneurs each year, for five years, with comprehensive support from the School for Social Entrepreneurs through its innovative ‘action learning’ programmes, which will start in October 2012. In addition the following grants will be available:
- 130 ‘Start Up’ awards: grants of £4,000, and a place on a Start Up SSE learning programme delivered in Leeds.
- 20 ‘Scale Up’ awards: grants of £15,000 and a place on a Scale Up SSE learning programme delivered at SSE headquarters in London.
- 1 ‘Lloyds Banking Group Social Entrepreneur of the Year’ award, given to a Scale Up applicant who demonstrates outstanding potential and who will receive a total package of £25,000 to scale their organisation.

People’s Postcode Trust provides funding opportunities to small organisations, community groups and charities through grants ranging from £500 - £10,000. Applicants that are not formally registered as a charity with Charity Commission can apply for up to £2,000 in funding. People’s Postcode Trust funds areas where players of People’s Postcode Lottery are at the highest intensity. This means that in any one funding period the Fund will accept applications only from specified geographical locations. In the next round of Small Grants it happens to be the NORTH (including Yorkshire and Humber). So if you are thinking about submitting a Small Grants application you should consider preparing it now as there will be only one more chance for our geographical region in 2012; the round opens on 9 April 2012 and closes on 25 May 2012.
